Students from the Senior Honor Literature Class wrote their own Beowulf scripts, created prop lists, and performed their creations on the Red Rocks stage! We had a lot of fun and laughs as we delved into the world of Beowulf! Great job everyone. Very creative!
We had a great first theatre club meeting yesterday! I am so excited to see so many students who are excited and dedicated to theatre. We played fun theatre games and met the Thespian Honor Society Officers. I am looking forward to next week. REMINDER: Auditions for Our Town are Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 3:30pm! Have a monologue prepared and memorized!
Here are a few important dates for the beginning of our theatre season:
First Theatre Club and Thespian Honor Society Meeting
AUDITIONS for Our Town
What a great first day of theatre classes! We played plenty of "get to know you" games and learned a little about our theatre. I am so excited for this new year of theatre! And look what our view from the theatre is this year: a nice, clean, pond!
The theatre was lucky enough to have Michael McGoff, the associate director of The Wizard of Oz (Coming to the Buell Feb. 7-13) speak to theatre students this morning! Mr. McGoff spoke on a variety of topics including casting, production, bringing new shows to the stage, and what it takes to maintain a life in the theatre. Micheal's credits are vast. He's worked with Alice Ripley in Next to Normal, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp in Rent, George Hamilton in La Cage A Folles, and Edward Norton and Catherine Keener in Burn This. He is also the reigning production stage manager for NYC Shakespeare in the Park and worked on Broadway's Wicked. Thank you Mr. McGoff for sharing your expertise with us, and thank you to the students and teachers that attended!
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Talent Show! The audience enjoyed watching dinosaurs eat eggs, a seven headed monster talk about its strange planet, and an expert on boybands. Also, the audience was tearing up during a beautiful performance of On My Own! Thank you so much everyone who came to see the talent show and thank you to the talented students who participated!
A group of theatre students will be performing improv at the Talent Show this Wednesday at 5:30pm! Come and support them!

Students had to choose a famous painting and try to recreate it on stage with light! They had to focus, put in gel, and cue their own lights! I think they all did such an amazing job! Here are a few examples!
Tuesday, December 8th (call backs December 10) at 3:30pm
Where: Theatre What: Please prepare a 1 minute song! Bring in sheet music with your music clearly marked where to start and end. Performances: March 10, 11, 12 at 7pm, and 12 at 2pm ***Please be aware that you will be allowed to miss only two scheduled rehearsals if you are in the show! So please bring dates to the audition that you know you will be absent!*** Looking forward to seeing you there! Break a leg and have fun! Denver Academy’s Thespian troupe annually attends the Colorado State Thespian Conference in downtown Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. This year we were able to attend workshops where we were able to hone our skills and learn many new insights into the theatre world. Some workshops that students attended involved Irish dialects, salsa dancing, gore makeup, voice-projection techniques, storytelling through singing, playwriting, stage combat, and even a tour of the Buell Theatre! We also were able to watch other high school performances! The theme this year for the convention went hand in hand with what we have been talking about this year in our theatre: Theatre touches hearts and also opens minds. What a great experience and opportunity! Thank you for all the students who participated!
