Middle School Classes
Intro to Theatre and Vocal Music
Students will work together to perform skits and sing choral music. A guest artist will be visiting the class on a regular basis to lead the Middle School choral ensemble. In addition to singing, students will be rehearsing and performing scenes, skits and stories developed in class.
Advanced Acting: Performance
Students will perform a one act play. Students learn the fundamentals of acting, work together as an ensemble and study character development. The ensemble piece will be performed at the end of the quarter, and auditions will take place during class time.
Advanced Acting: Shakespeare
Students will rehearse and perform scenes from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Students will learn to interpret classic characters and make them their own, implement the fundamentals of Shakespearean acting, and enjoy the experience of performing in front of a live audience. Auditions for specific parts will take place during class time. This class requires an afterschool commitment the week of performances.
Improvisation Basics
Students will enjoy actively creating characters and scenes through improvisation games similar to those showcased on the popular tv show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” Students will learn about improvisation through scene interpretation, theatre games, collaborative exercises and storytelling. We will study both short and long form techniques as well as performance-style improvisation. The class will end in a showcase for peers.

Students will take improv to the next level as they explore improvisation through scene interpretation, theatre games, collaborative exercises and character creation. We will study both short and long form techniques as well as performance-style improvisation. The class will end in a showcase for peers.
MMIMS: Movies Made in Middle School
Students will learn to collaborate in order to storyboard, produce, direct, edit and act in their own short films.
Musical Theatre: Intro to Musical Theatre
Students will rehearse and perform scenes and songs from various Broadway Musicals. Students will learn the fundamentals of acting, singing and movement as it relates to musical theatre productions. Scene work and musical numbers will be showcased at the end of the quarter.

All Things Theatre
Love to sing, act, dance? Want to do it all? Experience the many aspects of theatre including choral work (singing), scene work, character creation, commedia dell'arte, costumes, props, set design, stage combat, choreography, stage direction, marketing, choral work (singing), and acting. We will be visited by guest artists to help us master “All Things Theatre” throughout the quarter.
Theatrical Storytelling
Whether telling scary stories around a campfire, or relaying a funny thing that happened that morning, fantastic storytellers have always been valued. In this class, students will actively create storylines and characters. We will also explore what makes a great story, including telling stories through song, movement, improv and the written page. This quarter, our focus will be on “Just So Stories” or stories that creatively explain how things came to be. Students will have the opportunity to perform to small groups throughout the quarter.
